How do I add a domain manager to my Squarespace domain?

Sign in at account.squarespace.com, open Domains, click your domain, click Permissions, then click 'Invite domain manager'. Enter their name and email and send it. They accept the emailed invitation and can then manage the domain and its DNS.

I only see 'add me as a domain manager', not a contributor option. Is that right?

First, which one do you need? Squarespace has two kinds of access, and they live in different places:

🌐 Just a domain (you bought a domain but don't have a Squarespace website) → use Add a domain manager. This is the one for letting someone connect your domain or change its DNS. Most people connecting a new site need this one.

🖥️ A full Squarespace website → use Invite a contributor (secondary section below).

Why you'd do this: To connect your domain to a new site (or manage its DNS), whoever is helping needs access to the domain. A Squarespace domain manager invite is the safe way — they get their own login through an email invite, you keep your password private, and you can remove them anytime.

Open your Domains dashboard

Click your domain

Select the domain you want help with to open its settings.

Click "Permissions"

In the domain's settings panel, open Permissions.

Click Invite domain manager. (This is the option you'll see for a domain — there is no "contributor" choice unless you also have a Squarespace website.)

Enter their name and email — and send

Type the name and email address of the person you're inviting (for example, your web designer or agency), then send the invite.

A domain manager can manage your domain's DNS and nameservers — everything the owner can do except reactivate an expired domain. That's exactly what's needed to connect your domain to a new site.

They accept the invitation — done

Squarespace emails them a message titled "Domain Manager Invitation from [your name]". They open it and click Accept invitation (signing into or creating a Squarespace account). Once accepted, they can connect your domain and manage its DNS. You can remove them anytime from the same Permissions panel.

If you have a Squarespace website (not just a domain) and want someone to help build or edit it, invite them as a site contributor:

Open "Permissions & Ownership"

Sign in and open the Permissions & Ownership panel at account.squarespace.com ↗ (or from the Home Menu → Settings → Permissions & Ownership).

Click "Invite Contributor," enter their name and email, set permissions

Click Invite Contributor, enter their name and email, then switch on the permissions they need:

Website EditorAdd & edit content and pages. Least access ✓

AdministratorFull access — required for design changes & managing the domain.

On a Squarespace site, only Administrators (and the owner) can change the design or manage the domain. Use Website Editor for content-only help.

Send it — they accept

Click Invite. Squarespace emails the invitation; the person accepts it and can then contribute based on the permissions you set. Change or remove access anytime from the same panel.
