Set up payment links
to sell in Square
A payment link is the fastest way to get paid: you make a link for a product or service, and send it to a customer by text, email, or social. They tap it, they pay, the money lands in your account. No website required. Here's how, on your phone or your computer.
The idea in one minute
Think of a payment link as a checkout page for one thing. You set what it's for and the price once; then you can reuse and share that same link with everyone who wants to buy.
Customers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, or Afterpay (pay-over-time) — all built in. Best practice: one link per product or service, so your money and your reporting stay clean.

Free to start: Square has no monthly fee to open. You only pay the standard processing fee when a sale actually happens.
Do it — step by step
On your computer (Square Dashboard)
~4 min
squareup.com/dashboard
- Sign in at squareup.com/dashboard.
- In the left menu, open Payments → Payment links (on some accounts it's under Orders & payments).
- Click Create a link.
- Choose what the link is for: Sell an item (a product/service), Collect a payment (a set amount), or Accept a donation.
- Pick the item from your library or create a new one — give it a name and a price. Add a photo with Upload image if you want.
- Optional: turn on Custom fields (ask up to 2 questions), Tipping, or Redirect after checkout (send buyers to a thank-you page).
- Click Save, then Copy link — now share it by text, email, or social.
On your phone (Square app)
~3 min
Square app
- Open the Square app → tap ≡ More → Payment links.
- Don't see it? Tap ≡ More → Add-ons → Payment links → Add for free, then come back.
- Tap Create → choose Sell an item or Collect a payment.
- Enter the name and price (and a photo if you like).
- Tap Save → Share to send it by text, email, or social.
Good habits
- One link per offer. Separate links for separate products/services keep your sales easy to read.
- Reuse the link. The same link works for everyone — no need to make a new one per customer.
- Name it clearly. The name shows on the customer's checkout and their receipt.
- Need a deposit or "money down"? A link only takes the full price — for partial payments, use a Square Invoice (see the Custom Payment Plans guide).
