What is an AI Readiness Audit?

A 30-minute diagnostic that names exactly where your business is losing leads, what it's costing you, and the specific AI tools that will fix it, without the $5K/month agency price tag.

The term "AI readiness audit" gets used a lot, usually by enterprise consultants selling six-figure projects to Fortune 500 companies. This is what one actually looks like for a small business doing $150K, $2M per year, and why it's the smartest $27 you'll spend on marketing this year.

If you've heard the term "AI readiness audit" and wondered what it actually means, you're not alone. The term gets used a lot, usually by enterprise consultants selling six-figure projects to Fortune 500 companies. This article explains what a real AI readiness audit looks like for a small business doing $150K, $2M per year, and why it's the smartest $27 you can spend on marketing this year.

One sentence

An AI readiness audit is a structured review of your current marketing and operations setup, your lead capture, follow-up, CRM, and content, to identify exactly where AI automation can reduce cost, increase speed, or fill gaps.

For small businesses doing $150K, $2M per year, it's specifically scoped to your size: not a 200-page enterprise transformation roadmap, but a focused diagnostic of where AI fits into how you already operate.

It answers three questions:

  1. Where are you currently losing leads or revenue that you don't know about?
  2. Which AI tools are the highest-leverage investments for your specific business?
  3. What would you implement first if you had a 30-day sprint and a clear plan?

That's it. Not a 200-page transformation roadmap. A specific, prioritized action plan you can execute this month.

Most small businesses aren't failing at marketing, they're failing at follow-up. An AI readiness audit shows exactly where leads are leaking out of the funnel.

The six areas reviewed

The Capers Ventures $27 audit reviews six areas: lead capture, response time, follow-up sequence, CRM and pipeline visibility, content and social presence, and review and referral systems. Each area is scored, and you leave with a written summary of gaps, priorities, and next steps.

i.
Lead capture setupDo you have a working form, landing page, or intake process? Where does the lead go when it comes in? Is it captured in a CRM or just your phone?
ii.
Response timeHow long does it take to respond to a new inquiry? If it's more than 5 minutes during business hours, you're losing 60, 80% of those leads.
iii.
Follow-up sequenceWhat happens to a lead after the first contact? Do you have an automated sequence, or does it depend on you remembering to call back?
iv.
CRM and pipeline visibilityCan you see, at any moment, how many leads are in your pipeline, what stage they're at, and what your close rate is?
v.
Content and social presenceAre you publishing consistently? Is your content driving inbound leads, or is it just activity for activity's sake?
vi.
Review and referral systemDo you systematically ask for reviews and referrals after every service? Or does it happen only when you remember?

What you walk away with

A written gap analysis (each of the 6 areas scored), a priority ranking of the 2, 3 highest-impact changes, specific tool recommendations sized to your business, and a 30-day action plan with time estimates.

After the 30-minute session, you walk away with:

  • A written gap analysis, each of the 6 areas scored (strong / needs work / missing entirely)
  • A priority ranking, the 2, 3 changes that will have the most immediate impact on lead conversion
  • A tool recommendation, specific platforms (GoHighLevel, n8n, specific AI models) that fit your business type and budget
  • A 30-day action plan, what to do in what order, with time estimates

The audit is useful whether you work with us or not. Most clients say the action plan alone is worth 10× what they paid. Disclosed up-front, that's the version I'd want.

Why "AI readiness," not "marketing audit"

Traditional marketing audits review ads, SEO, and content. An AI readiness audit goes one layer deeper, it evaluates whether your backend systems can actually handle leads once they arrive.

You can have the best Facebook ad campaign in Onslow County, but if a new lead at 9 PM on a Friday doesn't get a response until Monday morning, the ad was wasted. The AI readiness audit specifically looks at the systems that operate after the marketing works, the CRM, the automations, the follow-up sequences.

What "AI" means here, specifically

The "AI" refers to large language model automation, using tools like n8n + OpenRouter to run personalized follow-up sequences, generate social content, and produce weekly reports automatically. The audit assesses whether your business is ready to implement these tools, and what would need to be in place first.

Who this is for

Eastern NC small businesses in the $150K, $2M revenue range who are getting leads but feel their close rate is lower than it should be, or are spending on ads but can't clearly attribute revenue.

You should get an AI readiness audit if:

  • You're getting leads but your close rate feels lower than it should be
  • You know you should be following up more consistently but don't have the time
  • You've tried automation tools before (Zapier, HubSpot, etc.) and they didn't stick
  • You're spending money on ads or marketing and can't clearly attribute it to revenue
  • You want to scale without hiring, and you've heard AI can help but don't know where to start

The audit is specifically designed for Eastern NC businesses in the $150K, $2M revenue range. At that stage, you have enough leads and revenue to make automation meaningful, but you're not big enough to afford a full-time marketing operations person.

What it is not

It's not an enterprise AI strategy engagement, not a website audit, not a sales call in disguise, and not a generic checklist, it's a 30-minute diagnostic specific to your business with a real action plan you keep regardless of whether you work with us.

To be direct:

  • It's not an AI strategy consulting engagement (those cost $10K+)
  • It's not a website audit or SEO review
  • It's not a sales call in disguise, you leave with a real action plan regardless of what you decide about working with us
  • It's not a generic checklist, it's specific to your business type, market, and current setup

How to prepare

Come in knowing where your leads currently come from, your average deal size and target client volume, what software you use, and what you've tried that hasn't worked. You don't need to know anything about AI itself.

The 30-minute session will be much more valuable if you come in knowing:

  1. Where most of your leads currently come from (referrals, Google, ads, social?)
  2. What your average deal size is and roughly how many new clients you want per month
  3. What software you currently use (even if it's just a spreadsheet or your phone)
  4. What you've tried that hasn't worked

That's it. You don't need to know anything about AI, automation, or marketing technology. That's what the audit is for.

FAQ

Is this the same as an AI implementation project?

No. The audit is a 30-minute diagnostic. Implementation, building the actual CRM, automations, and sequences, is the 30-Day Pipeline Sprint ($497). Think of the audit as the diagnosis, the Sprint as the treatment.

Do I have to use your services after the audit?

No. The written action plan is yours to implement however you want. About half of our audit clients go on to do the Sprint with us. The other half use the plan on their own or with another provider. The plan travels with you.

What if my business isn't in Eastern NC?

We focus on Eastern NC for now. If you're outside the area, the audit framework still works, but our specific local market knowledge won't apply. Reach out directly and we'll let you know if we can help.

Can I reschedule if something comes up?

Yes. 24-hour notice to reschedule, no penalty. Same-day cancellations are forfeited.

How long does it take?

30 minutes for the live session, plus you receive your written action plan the same day. The whole experience, booking to deliverable, is under 24 hours.

How is this different from Zapier or HubSpot?

Zapier and HubSpot are tools, they execute the same playbook every time. An AI readiness audit reviews whether your business is ready for systems that test new playbooks, measure what works, and adapt. The audit names which automation belongs in your stack and which doesn't.

Do I need to be technical?

No. The audit is built for owner-operators, not engineers. The action plan is written in plain English with specific steps and tool names. If you can run a small business, you can execute on the plan.
